8am until 1pm.
I expect to do pretty well until noon, and then… well…
Yep, you’re totally right. And yes, there will be pictures of the ribbons! I have a couple to add yet but most - including yours - have been on my shoes for a good month, so they have lots of training sweat/rain/dust all over them : )
Yeah, I’m inclined to agree - I’ll give it a shot...

I think this is the worst case of marathon jitters I’ve had.
Forecast is now at 77*. I’ve pretty much given up on my awesome goal time and am thinking about plans B and C. I will be thrilled with a sub 5 hour marathon at this point.
I haven’t run since last Saturday. Even my coach doesn’t know that. Ten miles scheduled. A hellacious week filled with travel debacles (four...

Marathon Sunday
So. MPR now says the high Sunday will be 80*.
Weather.com says 69*.
National Weather Service says 71*.
ACK. My first not-ideal-weather marathon. It was bound to happen, I suppose. Does not help that Friday would have been perfect and the weather will be a good ten degrees cooler about thirty miles away from the race course.
C’MON COLD FRONT…

Calorie labeling on restaurants
At au bon pain getting some work done. Can I just say how much I appreciate labeling menu items with calories IN THE RESTAURANT? And online menus with ingredients and nutritional information? Seriously, makes my life so much easier.
I just had the most satisfying meal, in an airport, all well within my calorie budget. It was a HUGE dinner (chili, multigrain baguette, large fruit cup, carrots,...

So a deer almost ran into me on the trail this morning. That’s never happened before…

Officially less than two weeks before Twin Cities Marathon. Nervous is an understatement.
Let the compulsive checking of the 10-day forecast begin.

Had a backyard beer around a fire with some friends up the block last night, and met some new neighbors. Apparently they are runners too, and we started talking about the other runners in the neighborhood.
“Yeah, there’s this dark-haired woman we see, and she’s bigger but she cruises, like eight minute miles.”
I have not seen this woman, I run in my neighborhood all the...
Dinner tonight: Baked spaghetti squash with pesto, maple balsamic glazed carrots, garlic lemon pepper tofu, and fresh mixed greens with homemade lime vinaigrette. I feel like a human being again. Nom.

NSV, Mingus edition
I’ve posted here a few times that I’ve started bringing Mingus, our Gordon Setter, with on short, midweek runs of 4-5 miles, for about three months now. Like any athletic endeavor, we started out slowly and worked up to greater distance. I think the run/walk intervals helped in this regard, and I’m always careful to schedule water every 2-3 miles, especially on warm days.
Mingus...

Sunday is not a conventional weigh-in day. But given crazy work travel schedule, that’s what I’ve got. So, drumroll please…
Weight change: -0.8 pounds Previous BMI: 25.42 Current BMI: 25.05 BMI change: -0.37 Total weight loss: -35.6 pounds (-44.1 pounds from highest weight)
Holy crap it feels good to get that scale moving in the right direction again. FOUR WEEKS of stagnation...
Ohmygod. One of my posts was reblogged by some porn site. My eyes… argh.
Making My Own Joy: Happy Run, Happy Girl →
Wow, are those negative splits I see, too? So pretty. Congrats on your fabulous run!
kimijoy:
Do you ever have a run so good you want to cry? Because I did today. I’m (obviously) not a speed racer, but I loved this run. I felt great the whole way. No pain — at all. I know I can be melodramatic sometimes, but I honestly thought the ankle pain I’ve been having lately was going to keep me…

As always, I am Ashamed to say nothing....: Last... →
So well said. Thank you for posting this. Though so many hours have been invested, so much more needs to be done in New Orleans. I was in the Lower 9th Ward a good 15 months after Katrina helping to lead a service learning trip and there were still hundreds of homes needing to be gutted. I would guess there still are. Work there is not nearly done.
“Tomorrow is the day of remembrance, but...

Longest training run in the bag
22.05 miles 3:44:40 time 10:11 average pace <= too fast, not a long distance run pace, but whatever I’ll take it
Went out half hour early to get three miles in during the cool morning weather before the team run officially started. Longest training run I’ve ever completed (and this being my third marathon training season, that’s saying something.) Countless cute dogs on...
No confetti here either. Though that may be a blessing.
jonathandoeslife:
OK, somebody post a screen capture. Because I don’t have confetti!
themoderncavegirl:
Not gonna lie, I thought Ben gave me a virus or something when I saw the confetti thing & his was the top post on my dashboard.

Long run tomorrow. Every year, training for a marathon is a fabulous idea until the 21-22 mile training run. It’s supposed to be 80*+. Ugh. Dress rehearsal for race day! Let’s just hope the temps are not also dress rehearsal.
Huge thanks again to @AshamedtoSay (and everyone who directed me to her) for Chicago running advice. I got in two gorgeous runs along the water and across the...
Make Thin Mints at home
@MangoSteele’s post about thin mints reminded me of a recipe we made at home, with better chocolate than the commercial ones.

I’m a firm believer in balanced food choices. If I’m going to invest calories in sweets, that cookie or brownie or piece of cake...
@ChrystiDoesLife
Ha! Yes, no worries - I hate compulsory blister pics too. Gross. The jump was the least I could do to soften the blow of posting the thing at all!
Thanks for blister and Chicago advice!
@Moxy, Its-Kubrickian, DavidsGoals - You are so right. AshamedToSay IS da woman. Thank you so much for the recommendation - she has a ton of great ideas and has already been hugely helpful!
@RunsforRedVelvet - Great advice. I would agree, but this is really an anomaly. I usually don’t blister, I’ve never blistered this badly in my whole running career (three years including 3...

*Warning - not for the squeamish*
I’m usually not a fan of blister photography, but this baby was just too monumental to let pass undocumented. Seriously - ugh. After the jump.
Running does lovely things for every other part of the body, but man, it chews up feet.
Chicago-area fitblrs, advice please...
I’m attending a conference at UIC west side of campus this week.

First run since Tuesday - and it went really well! I was hoping for 15 miles, but everything was feeling great so I went ahead and finished 18 miles.
Time: 3:12:10 Average pace: 10:40
Feeling good - that’s the average pace I’ll need to hit a 4:40 marathon pace. Fingers crossed…!!!
Still getting used to the Garmin. It’s a bit weird but I think I’ll get it...

Ella-Tumbl: Dear Militant Vegans →
As a kid who grew up on food stamps and qualified for Headstart, I get this, to an extent, but I also think that this should speak more to the problems in our food system. The problem is not arrogant vegans (though they can be pretty obnoxious, without a doubt), but a food system that subsidizes soy and corn, which makes some meat (and anything made with corns syrup, for that matter) cheaply.

Good point - thanks! My favorite scale is below. It’s recommended by Cooks Illustrated and with a pull-away display AND backlighting. The right tools for the job - very important!
