Thanks for all the kind words about Bonnie, yall. She’s at the vet today and getting the blood test done to confirm Addison’s.
The web research I was doing said that it wasn’t uncommon for the IV fluid treatment to result in a “miraculous” recovery because it brings the potassium concentrations down, but while she is definitely improved from yesterday, she is very much not her old self. She doesn’t want to sleep under the blankets snuggled up against us - a well Bonnie would cry if not allowed to do this. She ate about half a cup of her white rice and boiled hamburger - her favorite thing ever - and refused any more, which is COMPLETELY unlike her, one of the most food-motivated dogs I’ve ever seen. She did, however, go outside and do her business - the whole nine yards - so that’s reassuring. She’s grooming herself, and she came downstairs from sleeping on the bed when she heard Mingus’s food in the bowl. She hasn’t thrown up breakfast yet, to my knowledge, so that’s good.
But she’s generally very tired and wants to sleep. The whole ride to the vets, she wasn’t even curled up but just sitting in the backseat, like that was as much energy as she could muster. She only chewed a little on her nylabone, one of her favorite toys. She didn’t want to get out of the car to go into Petsmart/Banfield - she LOVES that place because she gets to see her favorite people and gets treats - and I didn’t have the heart to force her, so I just carried her in.
It breaks my heart to see her so sick. We should be able to pick her up from the vet soon so at least she can recover at home.
