11 miles

No lie, this run was really tough. I was struggling. I was lucky to have some great runners with me, though. Some interesting learning experiences:

I dressed for the windchill (9ish*) but we never really had to deal with winds, so it was really closer to the actually temperature (19*), and the ten degrees proved to be a bit much.

Nutrition/hydration: In the cold weather, the gu became more viscous and I had a hard time tolerating it. Also, I brought water, and I’m glad I did - I probably should have used it earlier.

Gear: long-sleeved tech shirt, light tech running jacket, windproof/breathable jacket, windproof vest, neck gaiter, headband, tech texting mittens with cheapo knit gloves, heavy running pants.

I didn’t do my intervals this run. I think that probably also added to the difficulty.

On the bright side, I think that’s probably about the right pace that my long slow distance runs should be.

Also, I wasn’t able to take Mingus with on this run. He developed pancreatitis last week, is feeling much better now but the vet recommended he lay off running for a couple of weeks and ease back into it. Should be interesting as my mileage increases.
